The lower 48 states just set a new record for the warmest 12 month period since
record keeping began back in 1895!
The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) reports the average temperature in June for the contiguous US was
71.2 degrees. That's a full two degrees above the 20th century average.
The heat wave baking most of the country in the second half of June
helped break or tie 170 all time high temperature records.
