Thanks for visiting! My name is Rachel Frank, I'm an Emmy award winning meteorologist and New York City native. You can watch my forecasts on the PIX Morning News from 4am-6am.
I grew up in Battery Park City so joining the PIX11 newsteam is a return home for me! At 13 years old, I did a project on clouds at East Side Middle School and my love for weather was born. I dreamed of one day becoming a meteorologist like Mr G. Years later, I work with him! The weather in the tri-state area never ceases to amaze me. This is one of the only regions in the country that receives almost every type of severe weather planet earth can throw at us. Tornadoes, hurricanes, nor’easters, heat waves, cold snaps, flooding...the tri state area gets it all! Forecasting the weather isn’t just a job for me. It’s fascinating. It’s my passion.
Before PIX11, I worked at FOX CT on the station's 4pm, 5pm, 10pm and 11pm newscasts.
Working in Connecticut the last 6 years I have covered many storms that impact the New York City area. I followed “Superstorm Sandy” from its birth as a tropical wave in the Carribean sea to its devastating landfall on the New Jersey coast. Connecticut also shares in many of the same snow storms. The most memorable storm I ever covered was the blizzard on Febrary 8-9, 2013. I remember watching the radar at 3AM during the height of the event unable to sleep thinking, “this is a 100 year event. We may never live to see another storm like it”. Sure enough, we got crushed. NYC was buried in 1’-2’ of snow. But some towns in Connecticut received 3’+!”
While at FOX CT, I won an Emmy Award for Best Meteorologist in New England. I joined FOX CT in October 2008 from WFMZ in Allentown, PA where I was the weekend meteorologist. Prior to that, I spent two years as the weekend meteorologist at WICU in Erie, PA.
I graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology and a focus on forecasting. I graduated with honors, as a member of Chi Epsilon Pi, the National Meteorological Honors Society. I'm a total weather geek and I'm constantly learning new forecasting skills, techniques and playing with the latest technology.
During my free time, I enjoy hiking, biking, scuba diving, snowboarding, traveling, I'm a total "foodie”. I love attending classes at my local CrossFit gym and recently completed Tough Mudder, a 10 mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces. I also love animals. My husband and I have a small zoo with a cat, dog and turtle!
I'm a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.
