Surprise!
I wasn't expecting to see this when I woke up this morning! We are keeping an eye on the tropics for the first time this season. No cause for alarm. But it looks like a potentially wet end to the week, especially late Thursday into part of July 4th with a slow moving cold front and a possible tropical system passing southeast. I know July 4th is an important day to watch for outdoor festivities and fireworks. I'll keep you posted.

Changes Heading Into the Weekend
Saturday's Temps (NAM) |
Grab the sunglasses on your way out the door with partly to mostly sunny skies. There is a chance for an isolated shower west of the Hudson River. But most areas will stay dry.
The weekend looks fantastic with plenty of sunshine and temps in the low to mid 80s with a nice comfy air mass (low humidity). Another winner!

Warm & Sticky
4 KM RPM for this afternoon showing hit or miss showers |
Not as warm tomorrow, less humid too! Partly cloudy, chance for an afternoon shower west of NYC (northern NJ, the Hudson Valley). 77-82

Another Winner
Looking at the latest data today...the front for the middle of the week is moving slower than expected, practically crawling! High pressure will fight to maintain stability as it approaches. That means better weather the next couple of days with most of the showers holding off until Wednesday night and Thursday.
Today (Tuesday): Partly to mostly sunny, a but more humid. High: 82.
Tonight: Increasing clouds, patchy fog. Low: 64-69.
Tomorrow (Wednesday): Mostly cloudy, humid, chance for a late day shower or storm (mainly west of NYC). High: 83.
Thursday: Scattered showers and storms, mainly in the morning. High: 84.
Rain Thursday morning |
Today (Tuesday): Partly to mostly sunny, a but more humid. High: 82.
Tonight: Increasing clouds, patchy fog. Low: 64-69.
Tomorrow (Wednesday): Mostly cloudy, humid, chance for a late day shower or storm (mainly west of NYC). High: 83.

Great Start To The Week
I'm loving this stretch of weather! Today will be sunny with low humidity and high temps in the upper 70s to low 80s. We'll see similar temps tomorrow with partly to mostly cloudy skies and increasing humidity. By Wednesday it's very humid with lots of clouds and the chance for scattered showers and storms during the day. The heaviest rain will be Wednesday night into Thursday morning as a front crosses the area.
I had a chance to go to the Central Park Boathouse on Sunday for brunch. It was so beautiful! The banana french toast is out of this world!

Transitional Day
The worst of the heat and humidity is already over! See? That wasn't SO bad.
Instead of high temps ranging from 85 to 95 degrees, today most areas will hover around 80. Showers and occasional thunder are likely through around midday. Then some clearing is possible from north to south as Canadian high pressure builds in. That will bring a comfortable, less humid air mass for Friday into the weekend with high temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s. There is a slight chance for a shower south of the city on Saturday. But most places will stay. Overall, a nice weekend (unless you were hoping for a hot and humid beach day).
First 90 Degree Day Yesterday, Sort Of
JFK managed to hit 91 while the 90 degree mark remains elusive for Central Park at 89...close but no cigar. Islip set a daily record high temp of 89 degrees.

Grand Finale!
Today is the grand finale of this damp and dreary week! Humid, mid to upper 70s. One round of showers/storms in the morning, another in the late afternoon/ night. The biggest concern with storms today is heavy rain and localized flooding. Clearing just in time for your weekend. Near 80 Saturday, low 80s Sunday, low humidity and lots of sun.

Broken Record
Our broken record weather pattern continues today. Drizzle and fog to start. Humid with scattered showers the rest of the day. High: Low 70s. Friday is the grand finale with soupy air and the potential for strong to severe storms. Then things turn around just in time for Dad's weekend.Less humid, dry, lots of sunshine! 80s. Have a great Thursday! I'm filling in for Linda Church all morning on PIX11.
NYC Breaks The World Record For Trampolines!
Check out my story here
This was my first of three segments yesterday morning.
The weather turned a lot of people away and breaking the record was looking dicey for a while. The participants begged me to join to get their numbers up! They did it. What a fun day and now I'm going down in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Keep The Umbrella Handy
Today will be mostly cloudy but mostly dry. I can't rule out a few showers, especially northwest of NYC but activity will be hit or miss. Some brightening is possible at times in the afternoon. Today will be slightly less humid. Low 70s. But the moisture in the air soars again tomorrow, turning steamy all over again!
Scattered showers are once again in the forecast Thursday. Mid 70s. But Friday is the day that I want to monitor for the threat of strong to severe storms in the afternoon!
Luckily I still think this unsettled weather pattern will clear up by the weekend with clearing on Saturday (low 80s) and great weather for Dad on Sunday (mid 80s).

Dry Wednesday, More Rain Thursday
Take a deep breath! Pollen levels took a little dip with last night's rain.
We get a little break today! Morning clouds and patchy fog will break for some sunshine. The air will become more comfortable and less humid. It will not be as warm as yesterday. Instead of highs in the mid to upper 80s, we'll hold in the mid 70s to around 80 degrees.
But we're not done with the rain yet!
The cluster of thunderstorms bringing severe weather to the Midwest this morning will bring us rain late tonight into tomorrow morning. Rain will come down heavy at times with some poor drainage flooding possible. But I'm not expecting severe weather around here. That's a relief! Most of the rain will fall in the morning with a lingering shower possible in the afternoon. But I remain cautiously optimistic we'll get some late day improvement.
You can also see with the computer model to the left that the heaviest rain will likely fall south of NYC, in central and southern NJ/Long Island.
No severe weather and now more good news??! Yep. It looks like we clear out on Friday and this weekend looks sunny, warm, low humidity, spectacular!

Storms Later Today, Heavy Rain Thursday
Today will become warmer and increasingly humid with morning sunshine mixing in with some afternoon clouds. High: 80-85. Showers and storms will develop late in the day (northwest of NYC) and at night (everywhere else). Any storms that develop will be slow movers. This means poor drainage flooding is possible. While an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible, I think minor flooding is the biggest threat.
Early clouds will break for some sun on Wednesday. High: Near 80.
Thursday looks like is could be a mess with periods of heavy rain. Luckily, we clear out just in time for the weekend!
So today was my second day on air at PIX11 News. I wonder how long it will take me to stop saying "FOXCT 7 Day Forecast". PIX11, PIX11, PIX11.....grrrrrr.

June Has Arrived!
We hit a couple big meteorological milestones on June 1st.
It’s the start of meteorological summer! Instead of looking
at the earth in relation to the sun for the astronomical seasons seen on your calendar,
meteorologists like to keep things simple. Meteorological summer is the warmest
quarter of the year: June, July and August. We’re finally here after a long and
snowy winter! By the way, it will feel like summer the next couple of days with
warmth and humidity building.
June 1st also marks the start of the 2014
Atlantic Hurricane season. Luckily, it looks like a quiet one with an average
to below average season. Why? The National Weather Service is forecasting an El
NiƱo year with above average temps in the equatorial Pacific. This can cause
wind shear (wind direction and speed that changes a lot over a short distance)
that can tear apart a growing storm’s circulation. The United States is in the
middle of a major hurricane drought ( no one is complaining). The last major
hurricane to make landfall was Hurricane Wilma in 2005, over 3000 days ago!
Now onto the weather forecast!
Today: Mostly sunny, warm. High: Upper 70s to low 80s.
Tomorrow: Increasing clouds, warmer and turning increasingly
humid. Chance for a late day shower or storm, especially west of NYC. Any
storms that develop will be slow movers which means some poor drainage flooding
is possible. High: Low to mid 80s.
