Cloudy, Wet & Raw Wednesday

40s?! Temperatures like that are more typical of March than the end of April!  Wednesday will be cloudy cool and raw with showers becoming more numerous as the day progresses.   The heaviest rain will fall overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. 1”-2” is likely for most of the state with a Flood Watch in effect for minor poor drainage issues. Morning rain Thursday will taper to scattered afternoon showers. Some partial clearing is possible with a few towns approaching the 70 degree mark.

Cooler, Unsettled This Weekend

The weekend will get off to a wet start with heavy rain tapering to scattered showers by lunch time.  There will be a brief lull in the action around midday.  Some partial clearing is possible in spots before another round of showers develops late afternoon/evening.  Don’t be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder. Sunday looks like the better of the two weekend days with mostly cloudy skies and the chance for a shower in spots. More sun and milder temperatures return on Monday. But not for long! It turns cooler and unsettled midweek.

Tonight: Rain developing after midnight, heavy at times. Low: 40s.

Saturday: Rain tapering to showers by afternoon. Some partial clearing possible before additional showers fire up late in the day and at night. Highs in the mid 50s to around 60 degrees.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, breezy. Chance for a shower in spots. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. Northwest wind at 10 to 20 miles an hour.

Soak Up The Sun Friday

Enjoy while you can because a cooler, unsettled weather pattern is setting up starting this weekend. Rain arrives Friday night, coming down heavy at times into Saturday morning. There is a chance for a break in the action midday before another round of showers late day and at night. Sunday looks dry with sun and clouds.

Tonight: Clear, cold. Low: 29-35.

Tomorrow: Sunny start with increasing afternoon clouds. Milder than recent days with high temperatures in the lower to middle 60s. Chance for rain at night.

Monday: Partly cloudy. High temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

27 Emmy Nods For Fox CT

I'm so proud to be part of a team that pushes to be the best in the business! The Fox CT News team was nominated for 27 emmy awards including one for BEST METEOROLOGIST IN NEW ENGLAND!  The competition is fierce. I'm up against some heavy hitters in Boston that have been on air for decades! I'm just so honored to be in the same category as the other nominees.

After a 2 year dry spell (with no nominations) I was beginning to think I wasn't Emmy material anymore. My first nomination and win for this very same award was in 2011. Hearing my name called was one of the best moments in my life (second to getting married to my amazing husband).

The awards ceremony is June 7th.  I can't wait!  You can read my blog post from my last Emmy win here

Rain Late Tuesday, Cooler Midweek

Sunshine will fade behind increasing clouds on Tuesday. A few inland spots could approach 70 degrees while the shoreline will remain about 10 degrees cooler courtesy of a south wind. Showers move in late in the afternoon and at night. Behind the front, Wednesday will turn breezy and colder with highs in the 50s and wind gusts up to 35 mph. A lingering shower is possible but most of the state will remain dry.  Milder temperatures return Friday with scattered showers possible on Saturday.

Sunnier, Milder This Weekend

By milder I DON'T mean temps in the 70s like last weekend. But Saturday and Sunday will feel milder compared to recent days (stuck in the 40s, ouch).

Any lingering clouds will give way to sunshine Saturday. A gusty northwest wind will allow temperatures to climb into the lower 60s statewide.  You may want to protect early season plants at night as temperatures drop close to the freezing point. Sunshine sticks around Sunday. But an easterly component to the wind will keep the shoreline cooler than inland areas. Monday and Tuesday are the mildest with rain late Tuesday into Wednesday.

Tonight: Not as cold. Low: mid-upper 30s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, breezy. Northwest wind at 10 to 25 miles an hour. Milder. High temperatures in the lower 60s statewide.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. High temperatures in the low 60s inland. The shoreline will remain cooler in the middle and upper 50s. Southeast wind at 5 to 10 miles an hour.

Monday: Mostly sunny. The slow warming trend continues. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Tuesday: Sunny start with increasing clouds late. High temperatures in the middle and upper 60s. Chance for showers at night.

Wednesday: Lingering morning showers. Otherwise, remaining cloudy and cooler. High temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

Rain Ends As Snow/Sleet Overnight

Periods of rain will continue with most areas picking up on average 2.5” of rain.  A cold front working through the state will cause temperatures to crash about 20 degrees within just a couple of hours! As the cold air filters in, rain will in and change over to sleet and snow.  Northwestern Connecticut will change over first around 10 PM tonight with the transition continuing SE through New London by 2 AM Wednesday. A coating to around an inch of snow and sleet is possible.  Another concern is black ice with the combination of wet roads and subfreezing temperatures. You may want to plan on leaving yourself some extra time for the commute on Wednesday.

Wednesday morning may give you winter flashbacks. Keep that heavier jacket nearby through the afternoon.  Even with abundant sunshine, highs will struggle through the 40s. Slow warming will get underway the rest of the week, peaking near 60 degrees by this weekend.

Tonight: Rain, ending as a wintry mix of snow and sleet in spots. Low: 25-32.

Tomorrow: Early icy spots for the morning commute. Mostly sunny, cold and breezy. High temperatures in the middle to upper 40s. Northwest wind at 10 to 20 mph. Winds diminishing late.

Thursday: Sunny, not as cold as Wednesday but still below average for this time of year. High temperatures in the lower 50s.

Friday: Partly cloudy. A bit milder. High temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, chance for a shower in spots. high temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, pleasant. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Wet & Windy Tuesday, Cooler Mid Week.

After the mildest stretch of the season so far, get ready for the biggest cool down. Tuesday looks wet and windy.  Rain will come down heavy at times, especially late in the day and at night. Colder air will charge in Tuesday night in the wake of a very strong cold front. This could cause rain to mix in or change over to a bit of sleet and snow in spots before ending prior to sunrise Wednesday. I don’t expect much accumulation. But there could be some slipper spots for the Wednesday morning commute.  With temperatures tanking below freezing, wet roads could change to icy roads.  The rest of the day Wednesday is sunny but noticeably cooler with high temperatures in the 40s for most of the state!  The really cold air doesn’t last long. 50s return Thursday with near 60 degree temps by the weekend.

Tonight: Increasing clouds. Showers developing late. Low: 50s.

Tomorrow: Periods of rain, heavy at times. Windy. South wind 15 to 30 miles an hour with higher gusts possible. High temperatures in the 60s.

Wednesday: Before sunrise, rain may change to snow or sleet briefly before ending. Mostly sunny, cold and windy. High temperatures in the 40s to around 50 degrees.

Thursday: Sunny, not as cold as Wednesday. High temperatures in the lower to middle 50s.
Friday: Mostly sunny. High temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

Saturday:  Clouds and some sunshine. Chance for a shower in spots. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Perfect Spring Weekend

This weekend will offer the nicest weather of the season so far.  Saturday will turn out mostly sunny and mild with temperatures flirting with 70 degrees inland and lower to middle 60s for the shoreline.  Morning clouds and fog will break for some sunshine on Sunday.  But with a breezy southerly wind, a sea breeze may keep temperatures a few degrees lower.   The warmth peaks on Monday with highs well into the 70s inland and lots of sun.  Heavy rain arrives Tuesday along with a sharp cool down.

Tonight: Areas of rain. Low: 40s.

Tomorrow: A few clouds to start off the day, then becoming mostly sunny and mild. High temperatures in the upper 60s to near 70 inland, low 60s at the shore.

Sunday: Early low clouds and fog break for some sunshine. Becoming breezy. High temperatures in the 60s inland, upper 50s to around 60 degrees for the shoreline.

Monday: Mostly sunny and warm. High temperatures in the low to middle 70s inland, middle and upper 60s for the shoreline.

Tuesday: Cloudy with rain developing. Rain could come down heavy at times. High temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Wednesday: Becoming and noticeably cooler! High temperatures around the 50 degree mark.

Lots of Clouds To End The Work Week. But Still Mild!

Clouds return on Friday, along with the chance for a shower or two.  Some peeks of sun will be enough to help temperatures rise into the 60s. More numerous showers are likely at night, lasting into early Saturday morning. The rest of the weekend looks dry and milder.  But the real taste of early summer warmth arrives Monday with highs in the 70s inland, 60s for the shoreline with a gusty southwest wind. Rain moves in Tuesday (some heavy) whisking away the warmth almost as quickly as it arrived.

Tonight: Increasing clouds, not as cold. Low: 40s.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, chance for a shower or two. Most of the day will be dry. A few peeks of sun will boost temperatures into the lower to mid 60s. More numerous showers at night.

Saturday: Chance for a lingering early morning shower in far eastern Connecticut. Otherwise, clouds break for mostly sunny skies. High temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, breezy and warm! High temperatures climb into the middle and upper 60s.

Monday: Partly cloudy and warm. High temperatures in the low to middle 70s inland, middle and upper 60s for the shoreline.

Tuesday: Cloudy with rain developing. Rain could come down heavy at times into early Wednesday. High temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Warming Up In Time For The Huskies Parade!

The weather looks spectacular looking ahead to the UCONN Huskies victory parade.  At 4PM on Sunday it will be partly cloudy and dare I say, warm.  Temperatures will slowly rise through the rest of the week.  A pesky stalled front will keep us on the edge of the truly mild air on Friday and Saturday.  That front will also keep us in the line of fire for a few showers. By Sunday and Monday, the front washes out and inland areas could see the first 70+ degree days of the season. It’s about time! The average date of the first 70 degree day is March 30 in the Greater Hartford area.

Tonight: Clear. Chilly. Low: 28-33.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, breezy. Southwest wind at 10-25 mph. High temperatures in the low 60s inland. Cooler along the shoreline, low to mid 50s.

Friday: Early morning showers. Even with mostly cloudy skies, temperatures still manage to climb into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Another round of showers at night.

Saturday: Chance for a lingering morning shower. Otherwise, a mixture of sun and clouds. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, breezy and warm! High temperatures climb into the middle and upper 60s.

Monday: Partly cloudy and mild. High temperatures approaching 70 degrees inland, middle 60s for the shoreline.

Sea Breeze

This was the mildest day of the year so far for inland Connecticut. Windsor Locks hit 67 degrees, the mildest day since November 2, 2013.  But the shoreline was much cooler, stuck in the 50s with a sea breeze.

At this time of year, the wind direction plays a major role in the temperature forecast. On Wednesday, a gusty northwest wind will keep the sea breeze from developing. This will allow temperatures to rise into the 50s statewide.  On Thursday winds switch direction, coming out of the southwest. With a breeze blowing over the chilly long island sound, shoreline towns will remain cooler with highs in the 50s. But inland areas away from the influence of the sea breeze will climb into the low 60s.

Tonight: Clearing. Low: 35-40.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, windy and cooler. Northwest wind at 15 to 25 miles and hour. High temperatures in the middle and upper 50s.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, milder, not as windy as recent days. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Friday: Sun and clouds, chance for a shower or two. High temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s.

Saturday: Chance for a lingering morning shower. Otherwise, clouds break for some sunshine. High temperatures in the lower 60s.

Sunday: Sunny most of the day with clouds increasing late in the day. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s. Chance for a shower at night.

Another Soaking

After a gorgeous and dry weekend, now it’s time to pay the price. Areas of rain with embedded heavier downpours are moving through overnight. Don’t be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder either!  Even though the rivers are high, the main stem rivers should be able to handle tonight’s soaking rain with 0.5”-1.0” for most of the state. No flood watches have been issued although nuisance poor drainage flooding is certainly possible.

Scattered downpours will linger into Tuesday morning. The rest of the day looks breezy and mild. This is an afternoon where temperatures will be unable to reach their true potential.  If we had full sunshine, 70 degrees would be within reach. Instead limited sunshine will keep temperatures capped in the 60s. A southwest wind could gust up to 30 miles an hour. Winds will remain gusty through Wednesday with plenty of sunshine. After a brief cooldown, the rest of the week looks warmer than average.

Tonight: Rain developing, some heavy at times. .5-1” for most. Low: 40s.

Tomorrow: A few lingering morning showers/downpours. Breezy and mild. Clouds breaking for some sunshine. High temperatures in the low to mid 60s inland, Near 60 for the shoreline.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, windy and cooler. Northwest wind at 15 to 25 miles and hour. High temperatures in the middle 50s.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, milder, not as windy as recent days. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Friday: Becoming cloudy with the chance for a few showers. High temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

Saturday: Chance for a lingering morning shower. Otherwise, clouds break for some sunshine. High temperatures in the lower 60s.

Rain Ends In Time For A Dry & Sunny Weekend

Ugh.  Clouds, 40s, showers... What happened to the dry, sunny, spring day we had yesterday? Luckily, this fast moving storm will pull out just in time for the weekend. Showers will become more numerous tonight with the chance for a heavier downpour in spots. But the rain ends between 2-4 am, well before sunrise.

If you see some clouds Saturday morning, don’t fret.   A northwest breeze will pump in drier air. Gray skies will give way to blue with increasing sunshine. Temperatures will remain around average for this time of year, in the middle 50s.  High pressure continues to build in Sunday with wall to wall sunshine and less wind. While most of the state will see highs in the upper 50s, a few spots inland could approach 60 degrees. Rain returns Monday night, heavy at times through Tuesday morning.

Tonight: Showers becoming more numerous. A heavier downpour in spots too. Low: 38-42.

Tomorrow: Morning clouds break for sunshine. Breezy with a westerly wind at 10 to 20 miles an hour. High temperatures in the middle 50s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, milder. A west wind at 5 to 15 miles an hour. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Monday: Sunny start with increasing clouds, mainly late in the day. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. Rain at night, some heavy.

Tuesday: Early morning rain. Otherwise, milder with a mix of sun and clouds. High temperatures in the lower 60s.

Wednesday: Cooler than recent days with lots of sunshine. High temperatures in the lower to middle 50s.

It's Beginning To Feel A Bit Like Spring

Spring is in full swing with temperatures around or above average this week. Wednesday morning clouds will break for some sunshine with highs in the lower 60s for most of the state. With a breeze blowing off the water by afternoon, the shore will remain a few degrees cooler.  I can’t rule out a shower or sprinkle in southern Connecticut late Thursday. But most of the state will stay dry as a storm passes harmlessly south of New England. Rain is more likely Friday night into Saturday morning.

Tonight: Variably cloudy. Low: 30s.

Tomorrow: Clouds break for some sun, mild. High temperatures in the mid to upper 50s for the shoreline, Near 60 degrees inland.

Thursday: Partly cloudy, chance for a shower in spots late day. High temperatures in the upper 50s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy. High temperatures in the lower to middle 50s. Chance for rain late in the day with heavier downpours overnight.

Saturday: Early rain and clouds break for sunshine. Milder. High temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, a bit cooler. High temperatures in the middle and upper 50s.
