Slow Weekend Improvement

While we honor our fallen service men and women Memorial Day weekend, a lot of people also consider this the unofficial start of summer.  If so, this “summer” is getting off to a slow start. Saturday begins cloudy with lingering drizzle in spots. Some sun will break through. But that will only help boost instability, triggering a few scattered showers/thunderstorms. Sunday is brighter and less unstable with a smaller chance for an afternoon storm. Monday looks the best: warm, dry and mostly sunny!

Tonight: Scattered downpours, drizzle, fog. Low: 50s.

Tomorrow: Cloudy start with a lingering shower in spots. Clouds break for some sun with a few afternoon showers/thunderstorms. Not every town will see one. High temperatures in the mid 60s to near 70 degrees.

Sunday: Partly to mostly sunny, chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm in spots. High temperature in the middle to upper 70s.

Monday: Mostly sunny, breezy and warm. High temperatures in the mid 70s to lower 80s.

Tuesday: Mix of sun and clouds, chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Not as warm as recent days. High temperatures in the lower to mid 70s.

Wednesday: Cloudy start with decreasing afternoon clouds. Cooler with high temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Farewell FOXCT, Hello Big Apple

At 13 years old, I did a project on clouds at East Side Middle School in NYC and my love for weather was born. I dreamed about one day becoming a meteorologist like Mr G. Now, years later, I’m going to work with him! After 6 years at FOX CT, my final day is Friday May 23. I start my new job at WPIX 11 in NYC on Tuesday, May 27.
The whole experience has been bittersweet. 6 years ago if I got a job offer in NYC, I wouldn’t hesitate to go. Since then, I fell in love with Connecticut. I fell in love with the noises that all the “creatures” make at night. I fell in love with all the hiking trails, reservoirs, and other beautiful landscapes that make Connecticut so special. I fell in love with living a few miles away from a farm. I made lifelong friends and I actually enjoyed going to work every day at FOX CT (how many people can say that)?
My husband and I went back and forth with the decision for a while.  But we both came to the same final conclusion. When the opportunity of a lifetime presents itself, you take it. Working in NYC has been my dream since I was a little girl.  Once the final decision was made, the stress melted away and I became overwhelmingly excited!
Thank you so much to everyone who made me feel so welcome and appreciated here in Connecticut. The last six years have been the best of my life.  Who knows what the next six years will bring?

Cooler, Damp Next Two Days

Our stretch of sunny, dry spring days is officially over. The next couple of days will be cooler and damp with mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers. Neither Thursday nor Friday look like a complete washout. But you definitely want to keep the umbrella handy.  This sluggish weather pattern moves out over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday morning sunshine will give way to building afternoon clouds. A shower or thunderstorm is possible in spots. But there is no need to cancel outdoor plans.

Tonight: Increasing clouds, chance shower. Low: 50s.

Tomorrow: Cooler, mostly cloudy with off and on showers. Southeast wind at 5 to 10 miles an hour. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Saturday: A mix of sun and clouds, chance for a shower or two in the afternoon. High temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Sunday: Partly to mostly sunny, chance for an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm. High temperatures in the middle to upper 70s.

Monday: Breezy and warm. High temperatures in the mid 70s to lower 80s.

It's All Downhill From Here

After a gorgeous stretch of spring weather, it’s all downhill from here. Clouds will increase throughout the day Wednesday with the chance for a late day shower. At least temperatures will remain around average for this time of year with highs in the low to middle 70s. The same cannot be said for Thursday. With overcast skies and scattered showers, temperatures will struggle to hit the 60 degree mark! Friday remains cooler and damp too with a warming trend arriving for Memorial Day weekend!'

Tonight: Clear to partly cloudy. Low: 48-55.

Tomorrow: Increasing clouds, chance for a late day shower. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s.

Thursday: Cooler, cloudy with scattered showers. High temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with a few showers. High temperatures in the mid 60s to around 70 degrees.

Saturday: A mix of sun and clouds, chance for a shower or two in the afternoon. High temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Sunday: Partly to mostly sunny, chance for an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s.

Clouds will increase throughout the day Wednesday with the chance for a late day shower.  Thursday and Friday look cloudier, cooler and damp with scattered showers. Luckily, the weather begins to improve just in time for the weekend.  A shower or two is possible Saturday. But Sunday and Monday look dry and milder in time for Memorial Day Parades.

Tonight: Chance early shower. Clearing, cool. Low: 45-50.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, breezy, pleasant. High temperatures in the middle to upper 70s. Northwest wind at 5 to 15 with higher gusts up to 25 mph.

Wednesday: Increasing clouds, chance for a late day shower. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s.

Thursday: Cooler, cloudy with scattered showers. High temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Saturday: A mix of sun and clouds with the chance for a shower or two. High temperature in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

Heavy Rain Ends Just In Time For The Weekend

Showers will become more numerous, steady and heavy throughout the evening tonight.  The heaviest rain will come down between 10pm and 4 am. Don’t be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder! A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through early Saturday morning. Minor flooding is possible of poor drainage/low lying areas and small streams and creeks.

Luckily, rain will end before 8AM on Saturday followed by clearing. After two muggy days, the air will be noticeably less humid and refreshing over the weekend. Sunday will start off sunny with clouds bubbling up as the day progresses.  A shower or sprinkle is possible in spots during the afternoon Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a cold pool of air in the upper level of the atmosphere.

Tonight: Heavy rain, breezy and humid.  Low: Near 60.

Tomorrow: Rain ending early in the morning. Clearing, less humid. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s.

Sunday: Sunny start, becoming partly cloudy by afternoon with the chance for a sprinkle in spots. High temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Monday: Sunshine mixing with clouds, an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. Cooler with high temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

Tuesday: Sunshine mixing with clouds, an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. High temperatures around 70 degrees.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with showers developing. High temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

Humid, Showery Tomorrow, Heavy Rain Friday Night

Friday will remain humid with areas of fog and drizzle. Showers will become more numerous as the day progresses with the heaviest rain falling Friday night into predawn Saturday. Don’t be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder! Even though this front has a history of producing severe weather, we are not expecting any locally. Rain ends early Saturday. The rest of the day is partly cloudy and less humid. Most of the weekend looks dry with the chance for a shower in spots Sunday afternoon.

Tonight: Cloudy, foggy, showers. Humid and mild. High: Near 60.

Tomorrow: Areas of fog and drizzle. Humid and breezy with showers becoming more numerous throughout day. Southeast wind at 10 to 20 miles an hour. High temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

Saturday: Rain ending early in the morning. Becoming partly cloudy, less humid. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, chance for an afternoon shower in spots. High temperatures in the lower 70s.

Monday: Partly to mostly cloudy, chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Cooler with high temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.\

Tuesday: Partly to mostly cloudy, chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. High temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

Carbon Copy

Wednesday will be a carbon copy of today’s weather with a blend of clouds and sun. Temperatures will be right around average for this time of year in the 60s to low 70s. Thursday will turn milder and noticeably more humid. While a shower is possible in a few spots, most of this week’s rain arrives late Friday/Friday night into early Saturday. Rain will come down heavy at times. While most of the weekend looks dry, we’ll need to keep an eye on that front. If it slows down, more of this weekend will be wet.

Tonight: Cooler, comfy. Low: 45-50.

Tomorrow: A blend of clouds and sun. Seasonable. High temperatures in the middle 60s for the shoreline, upper 60s to lower 70s inland.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, warmer and more humid. High temperatures in the middle to upper 70s. Slight chance for a shower.

Friday: Cloudy with scattered showers. Heavier downpours developing late or at night. High temperatures in the 60s to lower 70s.

Saturday: Heavy rain lingering into Saturday morning. Then turning partly cloudy. High temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, seasonable. High temperatures in the lower 70s.

On Monday Windsor Locks tied the record high temperature of 90 degrees, last set in 2004. That’s the warmest temperature since September of last year. But our taste of early summer warmth is officially over.  A backdoor cold front will pass through New England early Tuesday bringing a cooler easterly wind. The next couple of days will be mostly cloudy with the chance for a shower or two.  Temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday will stay in the 60s. Thursday will turn briefly warmer and more humid.

Tonight: Increasing clouds. Low: 50s.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, some sun. Chance for a shower in spots. Not as warm as recent days with high temperatures in the 60s.

Saturday: Chance for a lingering shower early. Otherwise, partly cloudy. High temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Freak Snowstorm 37 Years Ago Today

37 years ago it was SNOWING!  This is a cover page of the Hartford Courant from May10, 1977. Also, check out the snowfall totals below! While the Connecticut River Valley and southern Connecticut got a raw cold rain, parts of Litchfield County received up to 20" of snow!

A Summer Preview, Finally!

A warm up arrives just in time for the start of the weekend. Early Saturday morning fog, showers and clouds will break for some sunshine. Temperatures will warm through the 70s while also turning a bit muggy. Most of the day will be dry with another shower or thunderstorm in spots Saturday afternoon and evening as a front swings through. That front will wash the moisture out of the air for Mother’s Day. Sunday will be sunny, breezy and less humid with high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.

Tonight: Cloudy, foggy, chance for few showers, especially towards daybreak. Low: Mid 50s.

Tomorrow: Early clouds and drizzle break for some sun. Warmer and more humid with the chance for a shower or storm in spots later in the afternoon. High temperatures in the 70s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, breezy, not as humid. High temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. West wind at 10 to 20 miles an hour.

Monday: Partly cloudy very warm. Chance for a shower or thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon. High temperatures in the mid 70s to around 80 degrees.

Another Dreary Day Before A Weekend Warm Up

Once again the clouds will dominate Friday with patchy fog and a few showers. The unsettled weather is courtesy of a slow moving warm front. Once that front passes early Saturday morning, the floodgates will open allowing warmer air to surge into New England. Saturday will be milder despite mostly cloudy skies and the chance for a shower or two. Mother’s Day looks better with lots of sunshine. High temperatures both weekend days will be in the 70s. 80 degrees is within reach early next week.

Tonight: Cloudy with drizzle and patchy fog. Low: 50s.

Tomorrow: Lots of clouds, patchy fog and scattered showers. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Saturday: Warmer despite mostly cloudy skies. Chance for a shower or thunderstorm. But most of the day will be dry. Breezy. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, warm. High temperatures in the middle to upper 70s. A light sea breeze will kick in during the late afternoon.

Monday: A taste of summer! Partly cloudy. High temperatures in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy, very warm. Chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. High temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Living On The Edge

We will be living on the edge Thursday morning.  It will be sunny northeast of Connecticut and rainy southwest of the state. The unsettled weather will slowly move in the next couple of days bringing increasing clouds and the chance for a few showers. Once the warm front passes Saturday, the floodgates will open, allowing warmth to surge into New England. This weekend temperatures will soar into the 70s.  By early next week, a summer preview is forecast with the first 80 degree day of the season.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Low: 40s.

Tomorrow: Becoming mostly cloudy. Chance for a shower or two. High temperatures in the upper 50s to middle 60s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy. Chance for a few showers. High temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Saturday: Warmer despite mostly cloudy skies. Chance for a shower or thunderstorm. But most of the day will be dry. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, very warm. High temperatures in the middle to upper 70s right down to the shoreline.

Monday: A taste of early summer! High temperatures in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees.

Frost Tonight, Near 70 Wednesday!

Wednesday will get off to a cold start with scattered frost. Sparkling sunshine will allow temperatures to rebound nicely by afternoon with some towns approaching 70 degrees. Clouds will build back in Thursday and Friday with the chance for a shower or two.  The unsettled weather is a result of a warm front lingering nearby. After a temporary cool down, spring returns in full force Mother’s Day weekend. That warm front will finally swing through bringing highs in the 70s both Saturday & Sunday. We may even see our first 80 degree day next week!

Tonight: Clearing, patchy frost. Low: 35-43.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny. High temperatures in the low to mid 60s for the shoreline, upper 60s to around 70 degrees inland. Clouds increase late day.

Thursday: Clouds and some sun. Chance for a shower in spots. High temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy. Chance for a shower or two. High temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, chance for a shower or thunderstorm in spots. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s.

Calm & Comfy

The next couple of days will be calm and comfortable. Tuesday is partly cloudy with high temperatures in the middle to upper 60s. By Wednesday we’ll be flirting with 70 degrees accompanied by abundant sunshine. Cooler unsettled weather returns starting on Thursday.  With an easterly wind, the ocean influence will keep temperatures in the 50s to around 60 degrees with lots of clouds and scattered showers. Friday is a transitional day leading to a decent warm up just in time for the weekend.

Tonight: Cool. Lows: 38-45.

Tomorrow: Partly to mostly sunny, breezy and pleasant. Winds out of the northwest at 10 to 20 miles an hour. High temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Thursday: Lots of clouds, cooler with scattered showers. High temperatures in the 50s to around 60 degrees.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, chance for a shower. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Saturday: Warming up! Milder despite mostly cloudy skies. High temperatures in the lower to middle 70s. Chance for a shower.

More Clouds Than Sun This Weekend

Morning sunshine will fade as clouds bubble up throughout Saturday.  A shower or thunderstorm is possible in spots during the afternoon or evening. But activity will be hit or miss. So there’s no need to cancel outdoor plans or activities. Sunday is a different story. A cold pool of air in the upper atmosphere will cause a larger area of instability with the scattered showers and thunderstorms, some of which could contain some small hail. It might be dicey for outdoor plans in the afternoon.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Low: 40s.

Tomorrow: A mix of sun and clouds, chance for an isolated pop up shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. High temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Sunday: Becoming mostly cloudy and breezy. Scattered showers and storms in the afternoon. Some of the storms could contain small hail. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Monday: Mostly sunny, cooler and windy. High temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Tuesday: Breezy and sunny. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, increasing clouds late. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Average April!?

This may surprise you! A lot of people have been talking about how cold April was. But looking back at stats for last month show that impression was false. The average monthly temperature for Windsor Locks was 48.8 degrees. That’s only 0.8 degrees below average. Normal! Looking forward a new weather pattern begins in time for the start of the new month. The next few days will be mainly dry with temperatures in the 60s.  But each afternoon, there is a chance for a pop up shower in spots.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. 40s.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy with the chance for an isolated pop up shower in the afternoon. High temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy. Chance for a hit or miss afternoon shower but most of the day stays dry. High temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Sunday: Becoming mostly cloudy, chance for a few scattered showers and storms in the afternoon.
