UConn Victory Parade

GO HUSKIES!  I had a chance to celebrate another great women's basketball season by cruising the streets in the Storm Tracker with the FOX CT crew. We had a blast!
Could I get any cooler?

Hamden Middle School

Today I had the pleasure of hanging out with Mrs. Yaffe's 7th grade English class at Hamden Middle School! Great group of kids. They interviewed me for the school newspaper as part of their final project. Thank you so much for having me! No short jokes, please. ;)

Little Snow, Big Snow

Round two!  One batch of snow moved out this morning and now another one is moving in. Light snow will continue off and on this evening.  A fresh coating of snow is possible.  Watch for slippery spots for the commute tomorrow.

This morning's European Computer Model. Sat AM
Early snow and clouds will clear away, revealing partly to mostly sunny skies.  Temperatures will moderate a bit in the afternoon with highs approaching 40 degrees in some towns. Thursday is cooler but quiet. A significant storm is becoming increasingly likely for Friday.

Two storms will be trekking across the country on Thursday. The storm in the Great Lakes is weak but lacks moisture.  The storm in the Gulf coast has tons of moisture but no cold air.  Combine the two?  And you have the ingredients for a biggie.  The resulting low will likely develop off the Mid Atlantic coast Friday morning. If the European model is right, snow starts to break out in the morning, becoming steadier and heavier during the afternoon and evening. Winds will pick up, lowering visibility.  Oh and accumulations?  Don’t ask.  One computer model has us shoveling a foot or more by Saturday morning. The potential is there.  But there is still a fudge factor.  A shift in the storm’s track of just 50 miles could mean the difference between a foot of snow and a few inches.  What if the storms don’t phase? What if they take too long to phase?  Plus, if the storm tracks closer to New England, there could be some mixing along the Connecticut shore!

Here’s the take away.  Plowable snow is almost guaranteed at this point. BOTH commutes on Friday will be impacted.  And this could be the biggest snow storm we have seen in two years if everything “phases” just right.  We’ll keep you posted!

Tonight: Light snow. A fresh coating -1”. Low: 20s
Tomorrow: Early snow, turning partly to mostly sunny, breezy, not as cold. High: 35-40
Tomorrow night: Mostly Clear. Low: teens
Thursday: Cooler, partly cloudy. High: Near 30
Friday: Light morning snow, becoming steadier and heavier. Windy. High: Near 30
Saturday: Snow ending pre-dawn. Mostly sunny. High: Near 30

BRRRRRR...Coldest Air Of The Season To Date

Dig out your warmest winter gear!  It’s so cold, I’m breaking out the cow hat.  Yeah.  This is serious.

Tonight will feature the coldest air so far this season.   Temperatures will plummet into the single digits inland, low teens for the shoreline.  But even a light wind could drive wind chills near or below zero at the bus stop tomorrow morning!  Temperatures will get stuck in the 20s tomorrow afternoon. But the heart of the cold air is already moving out by Friday.  30s return for the remainder of the week. There is a chance for a few flurries Thursday night and again on Sunday. But no big storms in sight!

My First Turns Of the 2012-2013 Season

This is my third year snowboarding so I still get nervous getting ready for the first ride of the year. But I picked a perfect time to head to Vermont with a fresh 14" of powder when I woke up Thursday morning and an additional half a foot during the day.  But be careful what you wish for....it's hard snowboarding in deep powder.  I couldn't stop falling on Thursday! It felt like my first day snowboarding all over again!
There is such a thing as too much powder.
The second day (last Friday) was much better.  PACKED POWDER!  But the mountain got packed during the afternoon.  Everyone was excited to play in the fresh snow.

Vote For Fightin' Frank! ROUND TWO!

Who would win in a fight? ME or WFSB anchor Hena Daniels? Vote for Fightin' Frank on the latest CTBoom poll here! (This is not a real fight, nor do I actually win anything...AND I think Hena is awesome. This is just for fun!)

Here are some shots of me training for this epic battle...

Santa Baby

Santa is a ladies man
I agreed to participate in the Chaz and AJ Toy Drive at Bridgeport’s Webster Bank Arena last Friday.  I was psyched to help collect toys for needy children.  So how did I get conned into singing Santa Baby with other ladies involved in local news?   Still trying to figure that out.  But they raised over $87,000 in toys and cash! Great job!

Funniest part about the whole thing?  This podcast from ctboom.com talking about my mean looking "handler".

You can find the video of us singing here.  Just look for the video called "Hot News Babes Sing 'Santa Baby'.

Plainville Middle School

200 6th graders?  I was nervous before my presentation to Plainville Middle School today.  But the kids were AMAZING!  They were attentive, inquisitive and smart!  I think we may have some future meteorologists in the crowd.  Thanks everyone!  Next time, I'm wearing higher heals.

Happy Halloween...Two Weeks Later

Sandy zapped the fun out of Halloween.  But I eventually had the chance to celebrate by dressing up as Sookie Stackhouse from the HBO's series True Blood!!  I got the outfit direct from HBO along with a fresh bottle of synthetic blood.  It tastes like orange soda!

My First UCONN Game

I went to my first UCONN game this weekend for Sara Grant's birthday!  You know Sara for her web updates on the FOX CT News at 4.  She's one of my favorite people. In the winter, steer clear of us on the mountain. We're both beginner snowboarders!

I went tailgating for the first time since my college days at Penn State.  A few beers and I'm still recovering. I'm officially old.
Happy birthday Sara! (Far left)  You may not recognize Sarah Lombardi
and Kelly Sullivan, but you know their work!  Sarah (top right) produces
the News at 4 and Kelly (top middle) is a web producer!
We had great seats in the sky box!

Watching The Radar On Vacation

I was sending out tornado warnings in Connecticut from the beach today. Why do I always go on vacation during severe weather?

Apparently Boca Raton, FL is a ghost town in the summer. The "snow birds" all flock to the sunshine state after the first big storm. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my private beach!

What A Fighter!

I thought I had a whale on the line! King fish are fighters! I went deep sea fishing for the first time today at Deerfield Beach. It was a blast. I also caught barracuda and Bonita (used for bait). The boat crew did all the dirty work baiting and taking the fish off the hook. But it was my muscle reeling 'em in!

Stratton-Faxon New Haven Road Race

Road races make running fun!  Seriously.  I hate running. I get bored and spend all my time thinking about reasons to take a break. But this was my first time participating in an organized run and it was a totally different experience. The energy level is sky high.  You don’t even need an iPod to distract you with live bands rocking out and spectators cheering you on.

So if you’re an inexperienced runner and you want to get into the sport, a 5K is the way to go.  Here’s another bonus! The road was completely flat today at the at the Stratton-Faxon New Haven Road race.  I ran my best time ever of 31:34.  It’s not too impressive.  But my goal was to beat my previous time AND continue running without taking a break.  I achieved both goals.
Who is that little boy on the far right?  That's
me with the United Way runners!
I also wanted to run to help raise money for the United Way!  They helped sponsor the kids race this year and they do a ton for the local community including pro
