Windsor Locks 2012 Precipitation
This Year: 6.13”
Average: 11.99”
Departure From Average: -5.86”
Last Year To Date: 19.07”
You don’t need a meteorologist to tell you, WE NEED RAIN! Well someone’s dance finally paid off. A cut off low pressure system will develop this weekend bringing beneficial rain. I don’t think this will be a drought buster. But we’ll certainly put a dent in the rainfall deficit. And maybe…just maybe I can make it through a newscast without mentioning another damn Red Flag Warning.
A cut off low means the storm will be cut off from the jet stream (which normally pushes storms along). Without the connection to the jet, the storm will be stuck spinning over the east coast Saturday through Tuesday! It will not rain the entire time. In fact, I think most of Saturday will be dry with mostly cloudy skies and the chance for a shower in spots. But at some point on Sunday I expect heavy rain to develop. Another round of heavy rain is possible on Monday too with lingering showers Tuesday.
The computer models are all over the place with precipitation amounts. But at least an inch is possible statewide. And someone in the northeast will measure 2”-3” in the bucket. Could that be us? We certainly have a chance!
18z GFS for Sunday afternoon
