Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday
afternoon. The greatest threat will be from 1 – 7 pm with damaging winds, large
hail and vivid lightning. There is also a chance for a tornado somewhere in New
England thanks to ample wind shear (wind direction that changes with height).
Tuesday will start off cloudy with a spotty shower. Then
clouds will break for some sun leading to a warm and humid afternoon. The more
sun we get, the stronger afternoon storms will be. If clouds linger, that will
limit the severe potential. Storms will be scattered in nature which means not
every town will one. Northern Connecticut has slightly better parameters or
ingredients for severe weather. But
strong storms are possible anywhere in the state.
I expect the National Weather Service will issue a Severe
Thunderstorm Watch shortly. Perhaps even
a Tornado Watch for part of the state tomorrow.
We’ll keep you posted!
