Irene 11 AM Update

Irene has once again decreased in intensity caused by wind shear! During the 11 AM update, Irene has sustained winds of 105 mph making her a category 2 hurricane. This decrease in wind speed is good news for North Carolina. But the downgrade has no impact on us here in Connecticut. The forecast remains on track.

Given the storm's structure and envoronmental factors, little change in strength is expected as the storm heads towards North Carolina.

After passing North Carolina, southwesterly wind shear and cooler ocean temperatures should result in a gradual weakening of Irene.

But Irene is still expected to remain a major hurricane as she heads into the northeast with damaging winds, storm surge flooding and extremely heavy rain from eastern North Carolina all the way to New Enlgland.
