Rain Continues But The Chill Ends To Start Off May

May is finally here and right on cue, a warm up arrives to start off the new month. Heavy rain is likely early Thursday morning with the chance for a few rumbles of thunder too.  Steady rain will taper to scattered showers with some partial clearing by afternoon. High temperatures will soar into the upper 60s to middle 70s. But the real warm stuff will not last. Temperatures will be closer to average Friday through the weekend with the chance for a shower or sprinkle in spots each day.

Tonight: Periods of rain, some heavy. Thunder possible too. Rising temperatures. 40s at midnight. 50-60 by daybreak tomorrow.

Tomorrow: Early rain and thunder tapering to scattered showers. Partial clearing, milder. High temperatures in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

Friday: A mix of sun and clouds, chance for an afternoon sprinkle or shower. High temperatures in the middle to upper 60s.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, chance for a sprinkle or shower in spots. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Sunday: A mix of sun and clouds, chance for a shower or thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Monday: Becoming mostly sunny. High temperatures in the lower 60s.

Cloudy, Wet & Raw Wednesday

40s?! Temperatures like that are more typical of March than the end of April!  Wednesday will be cloudy cool and raw with showers becoming more numerous as the day progresses.   The heaviest rain will fall overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. 1”-2” is likely for most of the state with a Flood Watch in effect for minor poor drainage issues. Morning rain Thursday will taper to scattered afternoon showers. Some partial clearing is possible with a few towns approaching the 70 degree mark.

Cooler, Unsettled This Weekend

The weekend will get off to a wet start with heavy rain tapering to scattered showers by lunch time.  There will be a brief lull in the action around midday.  Some partial clearing is possible in spots before another round of showers develops late afternoon/evening.  Don’t be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder. Sunday looks like the better of the two weekend days with mostly cloudy skies and the chance for a shower in spots. More sun and milder temperatures return on Monday. But not for long! It turns cooler and unsettled midweek.

Saturday: Rain tapering to showers by afternoon. Some partial clearing possible before additional showers fire up late in the day and at night. Highs in the mid 50s to around 60 degrees.

Soak Up The Sun Friday

With less wind, milder temperatures and plenty of sun, Friday is shaping up to be the best of the next several days. High temperatures will climb into the lower to mid 60s. Enjoy while you can because a cooler, unsettled weather pattern is setting up starting this weekend. Rain arrives Friday night, coming down heavy at times into Saturday morning. There is a chance for a break in the action midday before another round of showers late day and at night. Sunday looks dry with sun and clouds.

Tonight: Clear, cold. Low: 29-35.

Tomorrow: Sunny start with increasing afternoon clouds. Milder than recent days with high temperatures in the lower to middle 60s. Chance for rain at night.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, mild with two rounds of showers (one in the morning, one late day/night). High temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

Sunday: A mix of sun and clouds. Breezy. High temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

27 Emmy Nods For Fox CT

I'm so proud to be part of a team that pushes to be the best in the business! The Fox CT News team was nominated for 27 emmy awards including one for BEST METEOROLOGIST IN NEW ENGLAND!  The competition is fierce. I'm up against some heavy hitters in Boston that have been on air for decades! I'm just so honored to be in the same category as the other nominees.

After a 2 year dry spell (with no nominations) I was beginning to think I wasn't Emmy material anymore. My first nomination and win for this very same award was in 2011. Hearing my name called was one of the best moments in my life (second to getting married to my amazing husband).

The awards ceremony is June 7th.  I can't wait!  You can read my blog post from my last Emmy win here

Cooler Windy 2 Days

The next couple of days will be noticeably cooler with a gusty northwest wind.  Wednesday will feature intervals of clouds and sunshine with the chance for a shower or two around midday. High temperatures will be in the 50s to around 60 degrees with wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour. At night temperatures will approach the freezing point. The wind will continue to howl on Thursday but the clouds will dissipate, providing plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will begin to warm up a bit on Friday.

Tonight: Cloudy with showers. Some clearing after midnight. Low: 44-48.

Tomorrow: Windy and cooler. Mostly cloudy, a couple showers. High temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. Northwest wind with gusts up to 40 miles an hour.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and windy. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Friday: Sunshine followed by increasing clouds. Milder than recent days with high temperatures in the low to middle 60s. Chance for a shower at night.

Rain Late Tuesday, Cooler Midweek

Sunshine will fade behind increasing clouds on Tuesday. A few inland spots could approach 70 degrees while the shoreline will remain about 10 degrees cooler courtesy of a south wind. Showers move in late in the afternoon and at night. Behind the front, Wednesday will turn breezy and colder with highs in the 50s and wind gusts up to 35 mph. A lingering shower is possible but most of the state will remain dry.  Milder temperatures return Friday with scattered showers possible on Saturday.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy, chance for showers late in the day and at night. High temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 inland, near 60 for the shoreline.

Sunnier, Milder This Weekend

By milder I DON'T mean temps in the 70s like last weekend. But Saturday and Sunday will feel milder compared to recent days (stuck in the 40s, ouch).

Any lingering clouds will give way to sunshine Saturday. A gusty northwest wind will allow temperatures to climb into the lower 60s statewide.  You may want to protect early season plants at night as temperatures drop close to the freezing point. Sunshine sticks around Sunday. But an easterly component to the wind will keep the shoreline cooler than inland areas. Monday and Tuesday are the mildest with rain late Tuesday into Wednesday.

Tonight: Not as cold. Low: mid-upper 30s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, breezy. Northwest wind at 10 to 25 miles an hour. Milder. High temperatures in the lower 60s statewide.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. High temperatures in the low 60s inland. The shoreline will remain cooler in the middle and upper 50s. Southeast wind at 5 to 10 miles an hour.

Monday: Mostly sunny. The slow warming trend continues. High temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Tuesday: Sunny start with increasing clouds late. High temperatures in the middle and upper 60s. Chance for showers at night.

Wednesday: Lingering morning showers. Otherwise, remaining cloudy and cooler. High temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

Rain Ends As Snow/Sleet Overnight

Periods of rain will continue with most areas picking up on average 2.5” of rain.  A cold front working through the state will cause temperatures to crash about 20 degrees within just a couple of hours! As the cold air filters in, rain will in and change over to sleet and snow.  Northwestern Connecticut will change over first around 10 PM tonight with the transition continuing SE through New London by 2 AM Wednesday. A coating to around an inch of snow and sleet is possible.  Another concern is black ice with the combination of wet roads and subfreezing temperatures. You may want to plan on leaving yourself some extra time for the commute on Wednesday.

Wednesday morning may give you winter flashbacks. Keep that heavier jacket nearby through the afternoon.  Even with abundant sunshine, highs will struggle through the 40s. Slow warming will get underway the rest of the week, peaking near 60 degrees by this weekend.

Tomorrow: Early icy spots for the morning commute. Mostly sunny, cold and breezy. High temperatures in the middle to upper 40s. Northwest wind at 10 to 20 mph. Winds diminishing late.

Thursday: Sunny, not as cold as Wednesday but still below average for this time of year. High temperatures in the lower 50s.

Friday: Partly cloudy. A bit milder. High temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, chance for a shower in spots. high temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, pleasant. High temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Wet & Windy Tuesday, Cooler Mid Week.

After the mildest stretch of the season so far, get ready for the biggest cool down. Tuesday looks wet and windy.  Rain will come down heavy at times, especially late in the day and at night. Colder air will charge in Tuesday night in the wake of a very strong cold front. This could cause rain to mix in or change over to a bit of sleet and snow in spots before ending prior to sunrise Wednesday. I don’t expect much accumulation. But there could be some slipper spots for the Wednesday morning commute.  With temperatures tanking below freezing, wet roads could change to icy roads.  The rest of the day Wednesday is sunny but noticeably cooler with high temperatures in the 40s for most of the state!  The really cold air doesn’t last long. 50s return Thursday with near 60 degree temps by the weekend.

Tomorrow: Periods of rain, heavy at times. Windy. South wind 15 to 30 miles an hour with higher gusts possible. High temperatures in the 60s.
